How to Find Your Birth Time for a Birth Chart
By The Rising · Updated · Editorial policy
Check a detailed birth record or the maternity hospital's records first, then family documents and recollections. Availability varies by country and institution. Record whether a time is documented, remembered or estimated; do not treat those sources as equally precise.
Start with documents you already have
Look for the full birth record rather than assuming a short certificate contains the time. A baby book, maternity discharge document or contemporaneous family note may help. Check that the time is explicitly the birth time rather than admission, registration or discharge.
Record the document's wording and whether it uses a 12-hour or 24-hour clock. If a copy is unclear, avoid guessing the digit. A time of 12:00 needs particular care because confusing noon with midnight changes the calculation substantially.
Ask the record holder what is available
Contact the civil registry or hospital that holds the relevant records and ask whether birth time was recorded and whether you can request a copy. Procedures, retention periods, identification requirements and fees differ. This guide cannot promise that a specific institution retains a time or that a standard certificate includes it.
Avoid publishing identity documents to obtain astrology help. The calculator needs your birth details, not a scan of a certificate. Share only what is needed through an appropriate channel if you choose to ask someone to review a record.
Handle memories and estimates honestly
Ask relatives what they remember and what supports that memory. Around breakfast is a range, not 08:00 exactly. If memories conflict, preserve both accounts instead of averaging them into an apparently authoritative time.
If no time can be found, use the unknown-time option. You can still explore available placements with their limitations. Choosing a rising sign from a personality description is not a substitute for finding the birth time, and interpretive rectification does not turn an estimate into a documented fact.
Try your own birth details
See your available Sun, Moon and Rising results before creating an account. Use local birth time, and keep uncertain information marked as uncertain.
